BET launched "The Truth with Jeff Johnson", a reinstatement of Black news to the Black television station that many have said needed to feature some sort of serious news show (after its cancellation of "Nightly News").
"The Truth", according to Jeff Johnson, will focus on providing a black perspective on news, as well as bringing light to many stories that affect African-Americans that simply aren't getting the coverage they deserve on major news outlets.
Those topics, Johnson said, can range anywhere from the economy to the elections, and from the Olympics to Bernie Mac's recent passing. Also later this month there will be coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
The new show is, at the very least, a step in the right direction for BET.
